Life Hunting

Ever have those days when you know you just need to push through to get through it? Where there is so much to be done it is mind boggling!
Right now I am doing our house hunting and it is one VERY labour intensive exercise.
So many questions...
Chris came up with the idea of a Plan A and a Plan B house strategy. Plan A home would be cheaper, smaller and in a not as good neighborhood. A house we would move into for 3 to 5 years while we buy, plan and build plan B house. Plan B house being a house that we both design which would be our dream home for as far into the future as we can foresee.
My concerns with this are thus:
1. Will we ever be able to afford to live in one, but buy land and build.
2. How much does one "settle" into the Plan A house knowing it would only be 'temporary'.
3. We have no idea where to start as far as building our own home is concerned and the costs involved. I wish we did, it would make this decision much easier.

I have in the past been searching for house that fits more into the Plan B side of things. Why go through all of the above if our dream house is already out there; a great size, in a good neighborhood at a price we are already approved for, right? (If I'm wrong feel free to tell me so)? Maybe I need someone to knock some sense into me, someone who is not going to be involved in this whole house hunting thing!
I have spent the last few days searching and looking at Plan A homes more along the lines of Chris' ideas, so far I have not turned up anything we would be happy in, but there must be something out there...right?
I am going to give up doing it alone and call in a real estate agent to help, as much as I would like to find our home it is proving to be a difficult task. I have spent almost all of my free time driving hither and yon looking at various different houses, dealt with snooty realtors and dozens of internet searches.
My "House Hunt 06" file grows daily and I seem to be getting nowhere! I think it would be far less laborious if I had someone who is willing to drive around with me for company, piece of mind and good advice. Don't get me wrong there are times that I prefer driving around by myself, but it still is nice to have someone to bounce ideas off.
Who knows maybe Laurie (the real estate/buyers agent we are going to sign with) will find us something by this weekend...I can be wishful can't I?
I have scheduled 2 weeks of downtime at the end of September, but finding time to plan for it is a nightmare! So much to do in that short time. Do we go to the beach? How long should I stay in Boston? Should I drive or fly? Maybe can get Chris to come to Boston for a weekend? Do I use the time to pack, so when we do have to move it will be less of a chore? UGH!!!!
Yes I know there are many others out there with longer and larger "TODO" lists than I have, but if we all helped with each others to-do lists they would seem far less daunting!
Anyway that was my vent and I'm done. If you have an solutions to any of the above I would love and appreciate feedback.
